“Pequeños momentos, grandes recuerdos”
Porque estoy estudiando en España, quiero escribir esto en español. Ahora, toda mi blog está sobre nuestras excursiones y viajes desde Salamanca, pero no tengo mucho sobre mi vida aquí en Salamanca.
Estoy tomando cinco clases en la Universidad Salamanca, con nueve otras estudiantes en mi programa de James Madison. Nuestras clases son muy pequeñas, porque no hay otras estudiantes, solamente nosotros. Estoy en Sistemas Políticas, Historia de Arte Española, Civilización Española, Comunicación Oral, y Gramatico Intensivo. Tengo un camino que es mas o menos veinte minutos desde mi casa a la Universidad. Todas nuestras clases terminan por 14:00 (2pm). Cuando tengo un descanso entre mis clases en la mañana, típicamente voy a un café para un café con leche y un postre. Aquí en españa, no es normal a hacer tarea en los cafes, pero todavía lo hago. Mis clases son muy interesantes, y me encanta aprender sobre españa cuando estoy viviendo en españa. Por ejemplo, durante muchas de nuestras excursiones, vimos cosas historicas, como edificios Romanos, que sobre hemos aprendido en clase. Es incredible.
Después de clases cada día, mi compañera de cuarto, Tiffany, y yo comemos con nuestra familia. Comida es la comida más grande en españa, así hay tres platos cada tiempo. El primero plato típicamente es una sopa, arroz, o pasta, y el segundo plato es un carne. Por supuesto, tenemos fruta con cada comida, porque en españa, fruta es lo más importante plato.
El tiempo más importante cada día es el tiempo después de comida: siesta. Siesta es tiempo a descansar después de un gran comida. Todas las tiendas y resturantes en la ciudad cierra durante esto tiempo. Después de siesta, mis amigas y yo normalmente vamos a la oficina de JMU. JMU tiene una oficina muy cerca de Plaza Mayor, cuando podemos estudiar y descansar. Hay computadores, mesas, sillas, libros, bebidos, noticias, todo que necesitaríamos. Aquí, hacemos nuestra tarea y planeamos nuestras viajes para tiempo libre. Por ejemplo, ayer en la oficina, ¡mis amigos y yo planeamos un viaje a Italia para nuestra semana libre en Noviembre! Compramos todas de nuestras boletas y Air BnBs para Roma y Firenze. Estamos muy emocionadas.
Normalmente, después de la oficina, compramos helado, porque el helado aquí es lo más bueno en el mundo, en mi opinión, y también es muy barato. A las nueve, tenemos cena con nuestras familias. Cena, típicamente, es una cosa pequeña como un sandwich, sopa, o algo más de jamón y queso, con ensalada, pan, jamón, queso, fruta, y chocolate. La cena es mi comida favorita. Después de cena, muchas veces, mis amigas y yo vamos a la Plaza Mayor para vino o sangria, nuestra favorita. Durante los fines de semana, vamos a los bares y clubs. En españa, no hay mucha vida nocturna hasta uno o dos en la mañana. Así, durante el día en sabado y domingo, dormimos hasta el tiempo de comida. La vida nocturna aquí es incredible.
Cada miercoles a las ocho, tenemos Intercambio. Intercambio es cuando hablamos con estudiantes de USAL quien estaban estudiando Inglés, y ellos hablan en Inglés y hablamos en español. Es muy divertida a hablar sobre vida en Salamanca con estudiantes, y aprender sus opiniones sobre EEUU. Cada lunes y viernes, vamos a un clase de Salsa. No es parte de nuestra programa, es separada. Solamente es 25 euros para ocho clases, ¡y es muy muy divertido! Es un poco difícil, pero me gusta mucho.
Con nuestra programa, hay varios actividades culturales que hacemos aquí en Salamanca. Un noche, nuestra director nos invató a tapas en varios resturantes alrededor del ciudad. También, hicimos un clase de cocinar en un resturante local. Cocinamos un tortilla española, gazpacho, y arroz con leche. Anoche, fuimos al cine, y vimos un cine que se llama La Llamada. Estuve un poco extraño porque no entidimos mucho, pero la experiencia fue muy divertida.
Por supuesto, vivo con una madre aquí en Salamanca. Vivo con un compañero de cuarto, Tiffany. Nuestra madre se llama Pilar, y ella es una abuela. Pienso que ella tiene el mismo altura de Simone Biles; ella es muy muy baja. Cada día, Pilar nos cocina desayuno, comida y cena, y limpia nuestras habitaciones cuando estamos en clase. Ella limpia nuestra ropa, hace nuestras camas, todo. Es incredible. Es muy difícil a comunicar con Pilar porque mi español es muy mal, y también ella habla muy muy rapida y con un acento muy fuerte. Pero, podemos comunicar basicamente. Pilar tiene un esposo, se llama Ricardo. Ricardo también es muy bajo, y no tiene dientes, así es imposible a habla con él. Mi vida con Pilar es muy comodo, y estoy muy feliz aquí. Tiffany y yo tenemos nuestras propios habitaciones, y son muy comodas. Me encanta nuestra apartamento, es muy linda.
Aunque mi español es muy mal, estoy aprendido mucho. Desde el primero día, he aprendido un cantidad incredible. Cuando estoy escuchando a español siempre, cada día, es muy más fácil a aprendo. Ahora, me encanta español. Todavía es muy difícil, y tengo días con mucho frustración, pero todavía no quiero volver a EEUU, donde no siempre hay español. En mi opinion, español es la lengua más bonita, más divertida, y más claro. No puedo describir muy bueno, pero me encanta esta idioma.
Pues, ¡eso fue un resumen muy breve de mi vida aquí en Salamanca! Me encanta cada día, y no puedo creer que solo tengo dos meses más.

Since I’m studying in Spain, I want to write a post in Spanish. Right now, my blog is only about our excursions and trips that we’ve taken from Salamanca, but I don’t have much about my life here in Salamanca.
I’m taking five classes at the University of Salamanca, with nine other students in my program from JMU. Our classes are very small because we aren’t taking classes with other students. I’m taking Comparative Political Systems, Spanish Art History, Spanish Civilization, Oral Communication, and Intensive Grammar. I have about a 20 minute walk from my house to the University. All of our classes end by 2pm. When I have a break between my classes in the morning, I usually go to a café for a coffee and pastry. Here in Spain, it’s not normal to do your homework in the cafés, but I always do it anyway. My classes are really interesting, and I love to learn about Spain while actually living in Spain. For example, during our excursions, we see things like ancient Roman architecture, that we have learned about in class. It’s amazing.
After class everyday, my roommate Tiffany and I eat with our family. Lunch is the biggest meal of the day in Spain, so there are three courses every time. The first plate is typically a soup, rice or pasta, and the second plate is a meat. Of course, we have fruit with every meal because in Spain, fruit is the most important course.
The most important time of day is the time after lunch: siesta. Siesta is a time to rest after a big meal. All the shops and restaurants in the city close during this time. After siesta, my friends and I usually go to the JMU office. JMU has an office really close to the Plaza Mayor, where we can study and rest. There are computers, desks, chairs, drinks, newspapers, and everything else that we could need. Here, we do most of our homework and plan our trips for our free weekends. Yesterday, my friends and I planned our trip to Italy for fall break! We bought all of our tickets and booked our Air BnBs for Rome and Florence. We are so excited.
Normally, after we go to the office, we buy ice cream because the ice cream here is the best in the world, in my opinion, and it’s also really cheap. At 9pm, we have dinner with our families. Dinner, typically, is something small like a sandwich, soup, or something else made with ham and cheese, with salad, bread, ham, cheese, fruit, and chocolate. Dinner is my favorite meal of the day. After dinner, my friends and I often go to Plaza Mayor for wine or sangria, our favorite. On the weekends, we go to the bars and clubs. In Spain, there isn’t much nightlife before 1 or 2 in the morning. So, during the day on Saturday and Sunday, we sleep until lunchtime, because we stay out extremely late. The nightlife here is incredible.
Every Wednesday at 8pm, we have Intercambio. Intercambio is when we talk with USAL students who are studying English, and they speak English to us and we speak Spanish to them. It’s so much fun to talk about life in Salamanca with them, and to learn about their opinions of the United States.Every Monday and Friday, a few of us go to Salsa class. It’s not a part of our program, it’s separate. It’s only 25 euros for 8 classes, and it’s so much fun! It’s kind of hard, but I like it a lot.
With our program, there are various cultural activities that we do here in Salamanca. One night, our program director invited us to tapas in various restaurants around the city. Additionally, we took a cooking class at a local restaurant. We made a Spanish tortilla, sazpacho, and arroz con leche. Last night, we went to the movies and saw a movie called La Llamada. It was a little strange because we didn’t understand a lot of it, but it was a really fun experience.
Obviously, I live with a host mom here in Salamanca. I also live with a roommate, Tiffany. Our host mom’s name is Pilar, and she is a grandmother. I think that she is about the same height as Simone Biles; she’s absolutely tiny. Everyday, Pilar cooks us breakfast, lunch and dinner, and cleans our rooms when we are in class. She washes our clothes, makes our beds, and does everything for us. It’s amazing. It’s difficult to communicate with her because my Spanish is pretty bad, and she talks really fast and with a strong accent. But we can communicate on a basic level. Pilar has a husband named Ricardo, who is also very short. He doesn’t have teeth, so it’s impossible to communicate with him. My life with Pilar is extremely comfortable, and I’m so happy here. Tiffany and I have our own rooms and are both very comfortable. I love our apartment, it’s so cute, and it’s in the perfect location.
Even though my Spanish is really bad, I am learning a lot. From the first day, I have learned an amazing amount. When I’m always listening to Spanish all day everyday, it’s a lot easier to learn. Now, I absolutely love Spanish. It’s still difficult, and I have days when I’m really frustrated, but I still don’t want to go back to the US where there isn’t always Spanish everywhere. In my opinion, Spanish is the prettiest, most fun language in the world. I can’t really explain why, but I absolutely love this language.
So that was a brief summary of my life here in Salamanca! I love everyday here, and I can’t believe I only have two months left.
